I thought that this little PSA was absolutely adorable. I love when you get to see a culture update their own ancient myths and legends. Last semester, I started following Buzzfeed India which gives me the modern side of India today. Now I am in this class in which I focus primarily on ancient India. This video was like if Buzzfeed and Indian Epics had a baby.
This image is so me. When it comes to creative writing (not prompted from school in any way), I have to be in the absolute perfect mood to actually write. I want to get better at this, but for now, yeah, I need this perfect environment.
This graphic made me laugh out loud in public. I suppose it made my weird light shine bright! I will never forget in 3rd grade when Lyndsey Beitler told me I was weird. I said "thank you!" because that's what my mom used to always say if I called her weird. Then Lyndsey said "No, Jillian, in a bad way." At the time I was crushed. Now, I look back and laugh. How indicative of how the rest of my life would go! My boyfriend is always talking about how weird I am, but that's why he loves me. My mom taught me that being weird was way more fun than being "normal". Now, I think being a little weird, being who I am without giving into what people say I should be, makes me who I am!
This video seemed especially timely. Between Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I got 4 hours of sleep. Staying up researching for my thesis and writing a paper for my French Lit class. After those two nights I was so exhausted. I went home and slept so hard for an hour before I had to be up again for the Crimson and Queens Drag Show. I wanted to stay home and sleep, but I had been talking to my friend Jerry (who organized the show) for two years about how OU needs a drag show. Bad timing for me. But the Thursday night, I slept like a baby for about 11 hours straight. This video is eye opening about the long term effects of sleep deprivation. My grandmother has suffered from strokes, and I don't want that to happen to me if I can help it by getting a good night's sleep!
My Senior year of high school we had one week devoted to studying the history of the english language and it was one of my favorite weeks of school. I love learning about the history behind all languages and I think the history of English is just such a clear representation of conquering and mixing. The version I heard was slightly different, but the same basic history.
I love this graphic because it truly makes me imagine a writer with a brush, making broad strokes across the page and the words appearing. When I think about a writer using all the colors, I think that a writer must go beyond what is comfortable. Perhaps what is comfortable are the blues. But one must explore different stories, different characters, different places, genres, and styles of writing! Only when one has experimented with a variety of factors is a writers using all the colors!
For the video from the announcements, I am highlighting the SNL skit "Papyrus". I am in the process of writing cover letters and the advice is always to use a "professional font". I have ZERO visual talent and ZERO opinions on font. I always use Times New Roman just because I know that's very professional. But then I begin to wonder if some people think that's too uptight! I have no idea!! So I would be the people in the skit seriously having no idea why this guy is so bothered. I was laughing the whole time.

For my favorite graphic, I loved the Chinese Proverb graphic, "One generation plants the trees; another gets the shade". These past couple weeks, people are finally starting to get fired up enough to really do something about education. We must act not only for the sake of children's educations, but also for the sake of future teachers. We must act now so that the future generations and our children are left out blistering in the sun!
